Still under construction but with some content now... maybe FAQ & MISC would be a better title.

WHAT IS CHINCHILLA CAT / PURE BREED CHINCHILLA CATS and so on... - CHINCHILLA IS A COLOUR of a Persian cat now.

One of the most frequent question. Sadly nowadays some sellers call almost every kitten to chinchilla because chinchilla cats have become fashion and the magic world "chinchilla" helps them to sell the kittens. Most of them are NOT chincillas.
Chinchilla cat or old type chinchilla used to was a different breed / race. It was a basically white cat, with long nose, long ears, long but not so fluffy fur, with unique faint silverish shade due to the black tipping on the top of white fur, with black lined nose, black lined eyes and mouth and black paws (sole, paw pillows) and delicate looking body, thin bones. It was because of a natural gene modification, genetically they were black cats but due to the modificiation their fur lost the colour. They must had green or turqoise green eyes.
At about 20 years ago or so breeders started to cross the chinchilla breed with Persians, most often with golden persians because of fashion, to reach shorter noses, smaller ears, more robust body. Since then the chinchilla cat become a colour belonging to the Persian breed. There are no pure chincillas anymore. My Choosie - who is presently almost 19 - one of the very last so called 'pure breed chinchilla' to our best knowledge but a chinchilla-Persian cross.

While breeders reached the required body shape, they lost a very important thing, the pure, beautiful colours of the original chinchillas, the linings became faint or disappeared, the eye colour almost never was really green but yellowish, lime or worse (to a chinchilla). Then they tried to bring back the eye-colour and started to cross the most chinchilla looking persians with colourpoints and ragdolls - a bit similar what try to do, I am obsessed with beautiful green, turqoise and blue eye colours of cats, too, I am trying to bring it back with the help of our beautiful "half" chinchilla-"half" colourpoint male, Ice (soon will be on the site). To be honest it was not pre-planned, simply we saw Ice to be beautiful and an excellent tempered kitten, considering everything including that we badly wanted to keep him for us, we now have the first litter of kittens from him and our beautiful Bia (Choosie's daughter). Bia herself is a new type chinchilla Persian but still very well resembling to the old type ones, good clear green eye colour, hardly any tipping and she has the required linings, to the present rules she is a perfect chinchilla. But she has smaller ears than her mother and much bigger and a bit more roboust looking body.

The regulation nowadays is that a cat is chinchilla when the ratio between the white fur and black tipping is 1/8, if it is bigger the cat is a silvershaded or chinchilla silvershaded. For silvershades a bit less perfect eye colour is accepted, it can be lime (yellowish). This tipping part is an interesting requirement to say the least, first because it tend to be not so even, on some parts it is stronger, bigger, on some part of the fur it is smaller or almost invisible. Also because it tends to be different on the 'summer coat' , more tipping are visible and the "winter coat' when the fur is thicker the optical effect changes and the tipping is less visible.
